«myself,» «himself,» «herself,» etc. usados como pronombres enfáticos

1. The King himself gave her the medal. Ann herself opened the door; Tom himself went. Ann opened the door herself. Tom went himself. Tom himself went to London; Tom went to London himself. I saw Tom himself; I spoke to the President himself. She liked the diamond itself but not the setting. I did it myself (It was done by me and not by someone else). I did it by myseld (I did it without help).

[«myself,» etc. también pueden usarse para enfatizar un nombre o un pronombre («The King himself gave her the medal»). Usado de esta forma el pronombre no es nunca esencial y puede omitirse sin cambios en el significado. Normalmente enfatiza al sujeto de la frase y se coloca después de él («The King himself gave her the medal»; «Ann herself opened the door»). Alternativamente puede colocarse después del objeto, si lo hay, («Ann opened the door herself»), o de un verbo intransitivo («Tom went himself»). Si el verbo intransitivo va seguido de ‘ «preposición + nombre» ‘ en pronombre enfático puede colocarse después de este nombre («Tom went himself to London» // «Tom went to London himself»).
