El presente continuo se forma con el presente del verbo auxiliar be + el participio de presente:
[A]
AFIRMATIVA: I am working; you are working; he/she/it is working; we are working; you are working; they are working.
NEGATIVA: I am not working; you are not working; he/she/it is not working; we are not working; you are not working; they are not working.
INTERROGATIVA: am I working? are you working? is he/she/it working? are we working? are you working? are they working?
INTERROGATIVA NEGATIVA: am I not working? are you not working? is he not working? etc.
[B] El verbo be puede aparecer en forma contracta, de manera que el presente continuo de cualquier verbo puede presentar contracciones:
AFIRMATIVA: I’m working; you’re working; he’s working etc.
NEGATIVA: I’m not working; you’re not/you aren’t working; he’s not/he isn’t working etc.
INTERROGATIVA NEGATIVA: aren’t I working? aren’t you working? isn’t he working etc.
Notar la contracción irregular «aren’t I?» por «am I not?»
Notar también: «Why’s he working?»; «Where’re you working?»
