El futuro perfecto y el futuro perfecto continuo

[A] El futuro perfecto

Forma

will/shall + infinitivo de perfecto para la 1ª persona del singular y el plural, will + infinitivo de perfecto para las demás personas.

Uso

Con expresiones de tiempo que comienzan con by: «by then,» «by that time,» «by the 24th»:

• By the end of next month he will have been here for ten years.

El futuro perfecto se emplea para una acción que en un tiempo futuro dado estará en el pasado, o habrá terminado hace poco. Imaginar que es el 3 de Diciembre y David está muy preocupado por un examen que tendrá lugar el 13 de Diciembre.

Alguien que planifica una fiesta podría decir:

• We’d better wait till 14 December, David will have had his exam by then, so he’ll be able to enjoy himself.

Notar también:

• I save L50 a month and I started in January. So by the end of the year I will/shall have saved L600.
• BILL (looking at Tom’s cellar): You’ve got over 400 bottles. How long will that last you? Two years?

   TOM: Not a hope. I drink eight bottles a week. I’ll have drunk all these by the end of this year.

[B] El futuro perfecto continuo

Forma

will/shall have been + participio de presente para la 1ª persona del singular y el plural.

will have been + participio de presente para las otras personas.

Uso

Como el futuro perfecto se usa normalmente con una expresión de tiempo que comienza con by:

• By the end of this year he’ll have been acting for thirty years.

El futuro perfecto continuo mantiene con el futuro perfecto la misma relación que el pretérito perfecto continuo mantiene con el pretérito perfecto, i.e. el futuro perfecto continuo puede usarse en lugar del futuro perfecto:

1 Cuando la acción es continua:

• By the end of the month he will have been living/working/studying here for ten years.

2 Cuando la acción es expresada como una acción continua:

• By the end of the month he will have been training horses/climbing mountains for twenty years.

Pero si mencionamos el número de caballos o montañas, o dividimos esta acción de cualquier modo, tenemos que usar el futuro perfecto:

– By the end of the month he will have trained 600 horses/climbed 50 mountains.
