Verbo + objeto + infinitivo

[A] Los verbos más importantes que admiten esta construcción son: advise, allow, bribe, command, compel, convince, enable, encourage, entitle, feel (b), forbid, force, hear (b), implore, induce, instruct, invite, let (b), make (b), oblige, order, permit, persuade, remind, request, see (b), show how, teach/teach how, tell/tell how, tempt, train, urge, warn, watch (b) 

(b) aquí significa infinitivo sin «to,» («bare infinitive»).

advise, allow y permit pueden también usarse con gerundios.

[B] Ejemplos de verbo + objeto + infinitivo:

• These glasses will enable you to see in the dark.
• She encouraged me to try again.
• They forbade her to leave the house, o bien 

    She was forbidden to leave the house. (más corriente)

• Nothing would induce me to do business with them.
• They persuaded us to go with them.
• They are training these dogs to sniff out drugs.

[C] show/teach/tell + how

show usado con un infinitivo requiere how:

• He showed me how to change a fuse.

tell how + infinitivo = «instruct»:

• He told me how to change the fuse. (Me dió la información o instrucciones necesarias.) 

Pero tell + objeto + infinitivo = «ordenar»:

• He told me to change the fuse = He said, «change the fuse.»

teach how:

We can teach someone (how) to «swim,» «dance,» «type,» «ride» etc.:

• He taught me how to light a fire without matches.how es posible, pero cuando la habilidad es muy corriente, el how suele omitirse: He taught me to ride.

teach + objeto + infinitivo (sin how) puede también significar enseñar o entrenar a alguien para que se comporte de una determinada manera:

• He taught me to obey all commands without asking questions. 

[D] remind, show, teach, tell pueden ir también seguidos de that:

• He reminded me that the road was dangerous.
• He showed me that it was quite easy.

Notar que tell + that no tiene el mismo significado que tell + infinitivo:

• He told (= ordered) me to go.
• He told (= informed) me that I was late.

[E] request puede también ir seguido de that + should. Esta construcción se usa principalmente en la pasiva:

• He requested that the matter should be kept secret.
